Portugal PM Antonio Costa to be Chief Guest of 14th PDB – Pravasi Baratiya Divas

Portugal Prime Minister António Costa who is an Indian origin is the chief guest at the 14th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention. The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas meeting will be organized from Jan 7 to 9, 2017 in Karnataka, Bengaluru . On January 8 Mr. Costa will inaugurate the PBD convention and address the delegates. Michael Ashwin Satyandre Adhin the Vice President of Suriname will attend the convention as Special Guest at Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas which will be held in Benguluru on Jan 7 2017.

About Antonio Costa:

» He was born on 17 July 1961 in Lisbon, capital city of Portugal.

» Antonio traces his paternal roots to India, Goa.

» His father is Orlando Costa, a famous poet and writer and has several relatives at Margao in Goa.

» Antonio Costa was elected as one of the 14 Vice-Presidents of the European Parliament in 2004.

» He was Mayor of Lisbon City from 2007 to 2015.

» He was elected as Secretary-General of the Socialist Party in September 2014.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Info:

» The PBD is celebrated every year on January 9 to mark the contribution of overseas Indian community in the development of India.

» On January 9th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas will be celebrated every year to note the contribution of overseas Indian community in the development of India. From the year 2003 this tradition continuing.

» PBD provides a platform to the overseas Indian community to engage with the government and people of the land of their ancestors for mutually beneficial activities.

» January 9 was chosen as the day to celebrate this occasion since it was on this day in 1915 that Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa.

» Thus, this event marks the importance of arrival of India’s greatest Pravasi who led India’s freedom struggle and changed the lives of Indians forever.
