Viral V Acharya has appointed as Reserve Bank new Deputy Governor by Indian Union government.
He will be in the office up to three years.



Appointments Committee of the Cabinet – ACC diclared his appointment chaired by PM Modi in New Delhi.
Viral V Acharya replaced the place of Urjit Pated after he appointed as Governor of RBI
RBI’s three existing Deputy Governors are S S Mundra, R Gandhi and N S Vishwanathan.

Viral V Acharya is former student of Mumbai IIT with a BTech degree in 1995 and PhD in Finance from NYU-Stern in 2001.
He was with London Business School (2001-08) and served as the Academic Director of Coller Institute of Private Equity (2007-09) and Senior Houblon-Normal Research Fellow at Bank of England (2008).
He also has worked as Director, NSE-NYU Stern Initiative on the Study of Indian Capital Markets.
Acharya was member of SEBI’s International Advisory Board.
Before this appointment, he was serving as the C V Starr Professor of Economics in the Department of Finance at the New York University Stern School of Business (NYU-Stern).
